When in Germany during last Christmas holidays I stocked up on sock yarn (as shown in an earlier posting). I also bought Regia Galaxy, self striping yarn which will make little 'galaxies' in the sock; little rings of Jupiter so to say. It must be the coolest idea ever, this yarn!
I started a pair of socks from it for the Sock Knitters Anonymous February sock, which had to have a new heel i.e a heel the knitter hadn't made yet. My choice of sock was a basic stockinette sock with the German heel from Nancy Bush's Knitting Vintage Socks.
Here they are
Started in Feb, finished in March.
Pattern: basic stockinette. I started with 68st and did the ribbing on 2mm needles. Then I decreased to 64 stitches and changed to 2,5mm needles. The heel I did as instructed in the book. After the heel I knit the foot part with 62 stitches. The toe I made really short with decreases on the side and kitchener stitch.
Needles: 2mm/2.5 mm metal dpns
The heel was nice, but much too long! I will do this heel again at some point I’m sure, but shorter. The socks fit fine otherwise. And at the end the galaxies came out nicely!
