Another free knitting pattern from Worsted Knitt! I'm getting the hang of this :)
This sock pattern is perfect for self-striping and self-patterning yarn. It can be so boring knitting plain stockinette socks with these yarns, but any complex pattern will not show in the striped yarn, or it will just look bad and messy. This simple moss stitch rib doesn't disturb the colours, but makes the sock more interesting to work on and to look at.
A word of warning: the pattern is not symmetrical. If you love your order and symmetrical ribbings, you possibly won't like this pattern. It doesn't really show that much, but better to give you a heads-up to avoid disappointment.
I offer this free sock knitting pattern for no fee for your own personal use - you may not sell this pattern or the hats you knit using it (please ask me about charity).
Please if you like this pattern do concider taking a look at the products I advertise here on my website and use my links for your Amazon & co purchases - it earns me a small fee to be able to cover the costs of running this blog!
Please contact me if you find any errors in this pattern.
To fit a average woman's foot, the length of foot and cuff can be shortened or lengthened freely. Needles: five 2-2,5 mm dpns Yarn: Sock yarn - seen in Austermann Step Jojoba and Lana Grossa Fantasy Gauge: meh. Take sock yarn, if you're a loose knitter, use 2mm needles, if a tighter knitter, take 2,5mm needles.
Pattern
CO 64 stitches. Join to knit in the round, note the beginning of the round (place stitch marker if you like). The needle after your join is needle nr. 1, the next is nr. 2, then 3 and the last one before your join is nr.4.
Start pattern: Round 1a: *k2, p2, k1, p1, p2* to end Round 2a: *k2, p2, p1, k1, p2* to end
Repeat these two rows for pattern - for 5 inches / 10 cm or preferred length. End with round 2a.
Heel flap: To keep the pattern somewhat symmetrical, move 2 purl stitches from the fourth needle to the first (there's now 34 stitches on top, and 30 left for the heel flap). You might want to adjust the stitches between the heel flap needles (3 and 4) so that both needles have 15 stitches on them. This is uselful later when turning the heel.
Start heel flap: (RS) sl1 kwise, k 29, turn work (WS)sl1 pwise, p 29, turn work
Repeat this until you have 30 rows and 15 selvege stitches on the flap's sides. End with a RS row.
Turn heel: Row 1: sl1 pwise, p19, p2tog, turn work Row 2: sl1 kwise, k 10, ssk, turn work Row 3: sl1 pwise, p10, p2tog, turn work Row 4: sl1 kwise, k10, ssk, turn work
Work rows 3 and 4 until there are only 10 heel stitches left.
Gusset: (RS) Use the 4th needle to pick up and knit 15 stitches alongside the right side of the flap. Work the instep stitches: p2, *k2, p2, k1, p1, p2* four times. Pick up and knit 15 stitches from the other side of the heel flap. You now have 40 heel stitches and 34 instep stitches. Knit all the heel and picked up stitches on the 4th needle till you reach the beginning of the instep again.
Shape gusset: Round 1b: p2, *k2, p2, k1, p1, p2* four times, k1, k2tog, k to last 3 stitches of the round, k2tog, k1 Round 2b: p2, *k2, p2, p1, k1, p2* four times, k to end of round
Work rounds 1b and 2b until you have decreased 5 stitches from each side of the sock - so you have 30 heel sitches and 34 instep stitches. After this work in pattern:
Round 1c: p2, *k2, p2, k1, p1, p2* four times, k to end of round Round 2c: p2, *k2, p2, p1, k1, p2* four times, k to end of round
Work as established (rounds 1c and 2c) until the sock is ca. 2 inches / 5 cm shorter than the desired length.
Toe: Set-up round: k one round, and at the same time arrange the stitches so that each needle has 16 stitches (until this point they they have 18-16-15-15).
Round 1toe: k1, ssk, k to last 3 stitches on needle 2, k2tog, k2, ssk, knit to last 3 stitches on needle 4, k2tog. Round 2toe: k across
Work rounds 1toe and 2toe until you have 10 stitches on each needle (40 stitches altogether). Then work only the round 1toe five more times: you now have 5 stitches on each needle (20 stitches altogether). Arrange the stitches to two needles (10 stitches on each) and close using kitchener stitch.
Wear with pride and happy toes! Don't forget to post your socks in Ravelry.

What a lovely sock pattern, I
What a lovely sock pattern, I will make them for my husband. He don't like a lot of stitchpatterns on his socks and I think it is so boring with just ordinary ribs. Thank you!
And by the way, what a nice blog you have! And the layout is really great, haven't seen it anywhere else. How nice with a uniqe blog design, most just looks the same.
Thank you very much for the
Thank you very much for the comment, that really made my day - and my designer husband's too! It's true, the design he made for this blog is unique!
